As the Greater Washington DC Family Business Alliance grows in both size and scope, we are asked many similar questions about the group and its membership. If you do not find the answer to your question in the list below, feel free to contact us at and we’ll reply right away.

Q: Who may become a member of the Greater Washington DC Family Business Alliance?
A: Any family-owned business in the Maryland, Washington DC, or Northern Virginia area may become a member of the Greater Washington DC Family Business Alliance.


Q: Is there a minimum size in number of employees or annual revenue for a family business to become a member?
A: A family-owned businesses of any size or revenue may become a member.


Q: If our family business is not located in the Maryland, Northern Virginia or Washington DC areas, but our clients are located there, are we still allowed to become a member or participate in some way?
A: Businesses outside the Greater Washington DC area are not eligible for membership, but may participate through the Alliance resources including our blog, articles, newsletters, open forums and events.


Q: May non-family members from our firm participate in Family Business Alliance activities?
A: Membership entitles the family members and/or non-family executives your firm selected as representatives of your business to participate in all membership-related activities and benefits.


Q: What does our business receive for our membership fee?
A: A listing of member benefits are listed here.


Q: If our family business became a member, would we have sponsorship opportunities for selected events, or other advertising options for the membership?
A: There are no formal sponsorship packages, but we will consider them on a customized basis for businesses who are interested.


Q: What does the Greater Washington DC Family Business Alliance have to offer for any business that is considering membership but has not yet joined?
A: Businesses considering membership can take advantage of free online resources, including our blog, LinkedIn group, knowledge base, and newsletters as events and open forums.


Q: Who is allowed to join the Family Business Alliance LinkedIn Group? Do they have to be FBA members? Can service providers join the LinkedIn group?
A: Any family-owned businesses or service providers to the family-business industry sector are eligible to join the LinkedIn group.


Q: As a service provider to family businesses, how may my firm join, sponsor or participate in Greater Washington DC Family Business Alliance events?
